Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium in Bangalore is a tourist place run by the Association for Science Education. The full area is for science lovers to get information about the features of Earth and space.

It has all details, from how stars got created to how planets developed. It has all details from the beginning of life to human space exploration, from gravity to eclipses. The Sky Theatre is its main attraction, but many other areas are there to provide an overview of scientific activities.

Both locals and visitors visit this location, mainly children. It helps educational institutions by enabling them to plan for excursions in advance. The kids enjoy learning outside the classroom and spending time with friends. The place is a knowledge hub with a more useful approach that shows the concepts better than the theory.

The Planetarium's Facilities

Some amenities here include food stands, restrooms, gift stores, and clean drinking water. There is also a parking area. It has special talks on days with events, such as solar, lunar eclipses, super moons, visibility of any planet or meteor, and so on.

You can reserve tickets here in advance on the Book My Show website or app. A block booking is also made possible for Sky Theatre performances. There are just two show times available - 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM.

The history

One of the five planetariums in India, named after the nation's first prime minister, is here. Yearly grants from the Department of Science and Technology fund it. Important scientists, educators, and senior officials make up the Council. Now, this place gets around 2 lakh visitors a year.

Knowledge of the Stars

The program is on the first Sunday night of each month. It is part of a lecture in Sky Theatre, where viewers can look at the stars using telescopes and binoculars. Then they can try to identify them using the star chart.

Mirror Dome performances

With 40 seats and air conditioning, the mirror dome projection hall got updated for both shows and academic activities. The two shows currently airing here are

• "Natural Selection," which shows the history of Darwin's theory, and
• "Dawn of the Space Age," tells the tale of humanity's progress.

It tells from the first space exploration attempts to today's successful spacecraft launches. It is not available daily to the general public and must get requested in advance.

In the Exhibition Hall, you can learn everything about the universe, the stars, meteors, eclipses, and more. There are many scientific facts about space all over the place.

Sky Theatre show

One of the great areas, whose roof is a perfect dome to show how the sky seems to humans, is the Sky Theatre. Shows are on the domed roof of this theatre, which has about 210 chairs. The shows are short videos that teach deep information about historical and scientific facts involving galaxies.

The audience gets engaged by the scenery, storytelling, and music. "Our Solar System" and "Exploring the Universe" are the current shows in the Sky Theatre.

Science Park

The Science Park is a campus with more than 40 interactive displays showing challenging astronomy ideas.

The Planetarium location

The Dr. BR Ambedkar metro station is at a distance of 1.5 km, and the Planetarium at a distance of 2 kilometers from each other in the city's center. You can also reach here by taxi and public transport.
