Sarjapur is a well-known area in the city of Hosur, and it is very close to Tamilnadu - Karnataka border. The area is a known housing and commercial area, and it is close to key areas like Whitefield, Electronic City.

The fair was very popular, and many people from the area and surrounding villages came here to buy and sell all their goods. The fair allowed local farmers to display and sell their commodities.

The fair now disappeared once the area was developed due to urbanization. But, the conduct of the fair gets assessed if one were to see the Madivala fair, which is there now. It was a small trading center, and its reputation lay in the fact that it bordered the city on one side and eighteen villages on the other 3 sides.

Sarjapur had good access to all these 18 villages, the main population. The area gets known for manufacturing clothes, carpets, cotton, and tapes. Muslins of premium quality were woven here and sold in the city and other places. The Sarjapur Muslin gets known in and around the city and is in great demand.

The Sarjapur goods got sold in the city, and the Muslin competed with some like products from the area of Doddaballapur. If that area got known for sarees, Sarjapur got known for its cotton and clothes. Today, neither cotton nor clothes got manufactured in Sarjapur.

The first mention of Sarjapur goes back to the Mughals. The Mughals invaded the city and took over the fort under the Mughal Emperor, Aurangzeb, in 1686. The General, Khasim Khan, took the city and its surroundings from the Marathas and, in 1689, leased the area to the Wodeyars of Mysore.

Today, the area is on another inclination. Modernization and development are going hand in hand there, and the area is seeing a big boom in the real estate sector. IT companies are setting up in the area, and connectivity has improved a lot. The march of modernity ensured that all remainders of the past vanished without a trace.
